I thought I’d seen it all—mashups of The xx tracks with (click for track soundclouds) Kanye West and Lupe Fiasco, hard hitting remixes by HULK and Four Tet, and even gorgeously ethereal covers by The Gorillaz and Birdy. Fabulous reworks and renditions, the lot of them. 

But I had no idea something this divine was possible.

This “refix”, from Cardiff’s Owls, doesn’t stray too far away from the original, yet creates a whole new solemn atmosphere courtesy of dragged out vocals. Drenched in echo and often running parallel to pitch shifted vocals, it serves as an ode to abandonment and an urge for change. Gorgeous.
