Marvelous
Hello civilian
Let me tell you,
I am standing atop the tower,
watching from the viewpoints
and if I take it I won’t make this fall,
Cape to leap and letter in hand
that just reads “help,”
But I won’t make this fall.
So when you look up at me, wondering,
if I can fly, if I can
take your breath like the spinning wind
like a fire imagined cradled in my palms
or unreal beams shooting out from my eyes,
if you wonder, if I am famous, powerful, skilled,
Just know that I don’t want be loved
for being a superhero or being talented
because I am neither,
Because I am really just a man with some
atrophied ankles and too much paperwork
average eyesight and can’t shoot hoops, look,
I don’t want to be mistaken for a superhero,
I just want you to love me like one.
